Dry ice is a solid form of carbon dioxide gas, which is odourless, tasteless, and non-toxic. It is made by reducing liquid carbon dioxide’s pressure and temperature and then further compressing it into blocks, slices, and pellets.

Dry ice is used mostly for refrigeration in Sri Lanka. Food, horticulture, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, organs, and other perishables can be preserved and transported with it because it’s twice as cool as ordinary ice. Since dry ice sublimates directly into gas, it can simulate fog or smoke in entertainment. A wide range of applications is possible where dry ice can be used, from metalworking to industrial cleaning, to name a few examples.
